Aerion Appoints Douglas Coleman General Counsel and Executive Vice President, Governance and Compliance
RENO, NV (April 4, 2019) – Aerion, the leader in supersonic travel, today announced that Douglas Coleman has been named General Counsel and Executive Vice President, Governance and Compliance. As Aerion’s chief legal officer, Coleman will oversee all legal matters, contracts, compliance and corporate governance programs as the company develops the AS2 supersonic business jet.
Coleman brings extensive experience in commercial and corporate law, intellectual property, and compliance in the aerospace and defense industry. He joins Aerion from Spirit Aerosystems in Wichita, where he served as Deputy General Counsel of the $7.2 billion aerostructures manufacturer. Previously, Coleman served in a variety of legal positions at BAE Systems, a global defense, aerospace and security company; Curtiss-Wright Corporation; and the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was a trial attorney in the Aviation & Admiralty Section.
Coleman received his Juris Doctor degree from the Dickinson School of Law at Penn State University and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota. His passion for aviation extends to his personal interests as a licensed commercial pilot and Certified Flight Instructor.
Aerion, the industry leader in supersonic travel, is pioneering a new generation of efficient, economical, and environmentally responsible supersonic aircraft. The Mach 1.4 AS2 business jet is scheduled to begin flight testing in 2023. Aerion entered into a partnership with Boeing in February 2019 to develop the AS2 and advance the supersonic market. In October 2018, Aerion and GE Aviation unveiled the quiet and efficient GE AffinityTM engine, the first supersonic engine in more than 50 years.
